Chinatown Gate: The Connection of the Community

Chinatown Gate in Boston is not just a landmark for Chinatown. Over the years when park, playground and seating areas are built around the it, the gate area has become the place to go for residences’ everyday activities.

Offered by the Taiwanese government to the City in 1982, the gate is engraved with two writings in Chinese: Tian Xia Wei Gong, a saying attributed to Sun Yat-sen that translates as “everything under the sky is for the people”. Photo taken on June 27th, 2018 by Ziqin (Franck) Zhou

The playground is right on the right side of the gate inside the park. Kids play around in this area with seats for their parents to take care of them.

As a landmark of Chinatown Boston, there are always people stop by and take travel pictures.

At the left side of the gate inside the Chinatown is the seating area. Retired people tend to stay here and play chess and card together.

Behind the gate is the area of Chinatown. The Gate separates Chinatown from outside Boston area. Inside the gate, everything stays in the style of Hong Kong during the 1980s.
